How is this not illegal??? Cards Against Humanity is PAYING people who didn't vote in 2020 to apologize, make a voting plan, and post #DonaldTrumpIsAHumanToilet—up to $100 for blue-leaning people in swing states. I helped by getting a 2024 Election Pack: http://Apologize.lol
@pluralistic I also love this part, sign a petition so cards against humanity can get $47 from Musk. Magic!
Shortcut: sign here: https://petition.theamericapac.org/
And enter "MuskIsDumb@cah.lol" as referrer.
Oh, I totally filled that form out. This is so great!
@rlcw @pluralistic Wait. What happens if you put your name in the dumb website? There must be some value to the fascists in gathering names, or they wouldn't pay $47 for them. I mean, it's nice LOLZ and Cards Against Humanity may get some money, but if I was a USAian I sure wouldn't be filling out that form.
@Plumbert @pluralistic Probably the usual: contact data of people who supposedly support that stuff. Qualified leads are valuable.
There are reports in how this data is used to strike off people from voter registers shortly before the final registration date, so that they don't notice or are unable to re-register on time. This is well worth more than $47. Please do some research before you make your choices.
@Datterich @rlcw @Plumbert @pluralistic Oh, this sounds wild AF, can you explain it again and a bit more slowly for the people in the back?
@pedrosanta @Datterich @rlcw @Plumbert @pluralistic
I couldn't find the original article I read on it some time ago, but here is what a search engine came up with on this topic: https://www.democracydocket.com/analysis/what-you-need-to-know-about-voter-roll-maintenance/
I glanced through, it might give you some first hints for where to start a deep-dive.
Disclaimer: I didn't fact-check this linked article.
Addition: I remember now the article I read some time ago was about websites pretending to register you to vote. It warned that there is no central, nation-wide official website. Those "services" may lead people to the correct state website, forward your data to it, do nothing at all, or forward data only for some groups of voters and discard the rest.
It's like always on the web: Convenience might be a risky choice.
@Datterich @pedrosanta @Plumbert @pluralistic Signing this petition however does not claim to register you for voting, nor have I found anything in the article you shared on somebody being able to remove you from a voter list just because they don't like your face.
I am not saying you shouldn't use the offered service. I proposed to take into account more aspects before making a decision.
I found this article (in German language): https://www.bpb.de/themen/nordamerika/usa/314474/hindernisse-auf-dem-weg-zur-wahl/
@Datterich @Plumbert @pluralistic How can you strike voters from voter registers using this data?
@rlcw @Datterich @Plumbert @pluralistic if you're playing by the rules, you can't, but the GOP already stole one election in 2000 by "accidentally" purging registered voters in FL (in districts which were likely to vote Gore).
@ianburnette @Datterich @Plumbert @pluralistic Yes, and they can already do that, without asking you to sign a maga petition.
