Grant Canterbury

Early morning visit today to Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge. In addition to the aforementioned , got nice looks at a flock of foraging in the pond, and an elegant pair of which are rare to the area.

An American Avocet, a tall elegant shorebird in white and black nonbreeding plumage, foraging in shallow water. Bill is out of focus, but it curves up at the tip!
A flock of white pelicans swimming on the water. One has its head dipped down and seems to be after a fish!
Avocet number two, taking a moment for a quick preen while standing in mid pond. This one had a bit more of the brownish head left over from breeding plumage.
