@Indigo Saw some stink bugs in Lynchburg VA as well as #SpottedLanternFly which I killed as many as I could swat. I was at a gas station, and they were just walking around. on the ground.

I *thought* there were fewer #SpottedLanternFly this year, but as it turns out there was a self-planted grapevine at the back of the garden and they were all feasting on it

The figs are finally ripening 
after a few unproductive years. I had thought because Summers are so much hotter it was out of sync with it's pollinator. But this morning I read that fig trees are a favorite of the #SpottedLanternFly, and there seem to be fewer of those this year. So maybe that was it all along? Or both? Anyway [nom nom nom] 
The kitten just managed to catch a #SpottedLanternFly *in the kitchen.* (Apparently I didn't realize that I had caught it on the broom when I swatted it on the balcony.)
I'm so happy for her, because chasing lantern flies was one of her favorite games when she was a baby kitten in the backyard last year.

It’s a wildcard week for #InsertAnInvert2024 so I’m bringing you a spotted lanternfly along with a second dangerous but beautiful invasive species: the tree of heaven. The Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altimissa) is a deciduous tree native to northeast China and Taiwan, which was foolishly brought to Europe and North America in the 1700s where it as become known as a noxious weed and invasive plant.
