Great to catch up with Adam Wells at the book signing session of CiderCon. Adam is a great ambassador of cider writing extensively in magazines etc. This is his first book on perry and the first book devoted to perry since the classic Perry Pears 1963 Luckwill & Pollard. And has an entry on TeePee Cider

Photography. A black and white photo of a pear lying upright on a white surface. It is really difficult to describe the fascination of this minimalist photograph of a Williams Christ pear. Perhaps it is the fact that its shape is initially reminiscent of a person's buttocks, but only then do you realize that it is "just" a pear. The light is even, there are no hard shadows. It appears almost white, with only a few darker dots and spots. For many, it may be just a bulb, but why do people stare at it anyway?
Info: Denis Brihat (1928-2024) was a pioneer of photographic art and left behind a remarkable body of work. He experimentally explored different forms of photographic expression and finally found them in his garden. He focused on nature, light and textures and created new ways of seeing. He died in December 2024.

One of my favorite #recipes is a farm wife’s fresh #pear #tart found in Marcella Hazan’s essentials of classic #Italian #cooking. My only changes: I double the amount of sugar and add more butter. I usually don’t do the bread crumbs on top, instead I just add a layer of sugar for a sweet, crunchy top.

In this area, it's almost impossible to avoid #RustRot on #pear #trees. In fact, many of us joke that you can identify pear trees by looking for rust rot. Not to worry because it doesn't affect fruit production & it's mostly an esthetics issue. The fruits will still grow & mature with rust rot on foliage.
