This animal was about twice the size of the modern spotted hyaena, ~ 90 - 100 cm at the shoulder and 100 - 150 kg in weight. Seen here carrying the arm of an early human. </p><p><a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/palaeoart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>palaeoart</span></a></p>
Rob Knell<p>Apparently it&#39;s <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/WorldHyaenaDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>WorldHyaenaDay</span></a>, so here&#39;s a spotted <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/hyaena" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>hyaena</span></a> in the evening sun a few km north of <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Satara" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Satara</span></a>, <a href="https://ecoevo.social/tags/Kruger" class="mention hashtag" rel="tag">#<span>Kruger</span></a> National Park</p>

Libralces was an early relative of the moose, which was about 1.5 m at the shoulder - the size of a wapiti - with extremely long antlers. These had a long beam with a small palmation at the end, and reached about 2 m in breadth. Chasmaporthetes was about the size of the modern spotted hyaena lacked its bone crushing adaptations and may have functioned more like a wolf. <a href="https://sauropods.win/tags/palaeoart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>palaeoart</span></a></p>
