Leider hat keine der #FleischfressendePflanzen das Winterquatier überlebt.
Keine Ahnung was da schief gelaufen ist.
Übrig bleiben die Winterharten. Die kommen prächtig. Die #Sarracenia treibt sogar das erste Mal Blüten aus.

Looks like Dorian the Sarracenia is going to flower! Apparently this strange bulbous growth in the middle of the cluster of pitchers is a flower bud

My carnivores in their winter dormancy quarters (an unheated but insulated mudroom).
I am continually amazed at how attractive the #Sarracenia pitcher plants are to various #insects. (Bumblebee on Sarracenia leucophylla, fly on Sarracenia minor.) This even in mid-October up in the north central #Massachusetts hill country, after a couple nights of frost.
The weather is so fine today that even the flies are going swimming.
The Sarracenia pitchers are starting to look lovely again this year.

What does it say about humanity that we will seek out and destroy something that is unique?

#Sarracenia × moorei flowers - a natural hybrid between S. flava and S. leucophylla. The flowers come out well before the pitchers on this North American pitcher plant, probably to avoid eating its own pollinators. #bloomscrolling #CarnivorousPlants #PitcherPlants
I got kind of creative in the fall last year and planted some pitcher plants outside. I also planted a few in a shallow clay pot (which isn’t recommended) as another test. It looks like they’re all doing better than last year’s test in a water dish (which rotted out). We had some cold this winter but it didn't last as long. That may have helped. It will be interesting to see what they do over the next couple of months.
Such a bizarre looking plant! First time owning one.

Vibrant winter color of a purple pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea). This one is growing in a small tub that I drilled just a couple of small holes into three inches from the bottom. This is so it retains plenty of moisture during the hotter months but still drains enough that the plants don't rot.
