» One must wonder, when MacAskill implicitly asks "What do we owe the future?" whose future he's talking about. The future of indigenous peoples? The future of the world's nearly 2 billion Muslims? The future of the Global South? The future of the environment, ecosystems and our fellow living creatures here on Earth? I don't think I need to answer those questions for you. «

Salon · Understanding "longtermism": Why this suddenly influential philosophy is so toxicWhatever we may "owe the future," it isn't a bizarre and dangerous ideology fueled by eugenics and capitalism

And the movie is about a blind, immigrant, HEALTHCARE PROVIDER. The irony.

Her ignorance makes me think that they’ll have ICE there too. Why not, when they’ll have Covid and whatever else is going around at the showing?

About the movie:

Most people dream of a better future. Pedro, an aspiring social worker, is no different. But as a blind, undocumented immigrant, Pedro faces political restrictions to obtain his college degree, secure a job as a healthcare provider, and support his family. As he finally graduates, uncertainty looms over Pedro. What starts as a journey to provide mental health for his community ultimately transforms into Pedro’s path towards his own healing. Through experimental cinematography and sound, unseen reimagines a cinema accessible for blind/low vision audiences, while exploring the intersections of immigration, disability, and mental health.

The Washington Post · Trump plan would slash State Dept. funding by nearly half, memo saysBy Adam Taylor

If MAHA truly wanted to tackle the chronic illness epidemic, they would provide the following:

Free respirators, Covid/flu tests and vaccines

Clean air in public spaces

Paid time off/sick leave

paid childcare

Mandatory masking in healthcare

Universal healthcare

Universal basic income

They don’t want to end the chronic illness epidemic, they want the chronically ill to disappear. There’s a big difference.

It’s eugenics on full display, and people are buying it because of their own internalized ableism.

They need to believe chronic illness can’t happen to them. That if they do the “right things” they will be fine.

Everyone is only temporarily abled. Help us fight for better social supports, healthcare and inclusion. It benefits everyone.

The man in charge of HHS used the R slur in an FDA meeting where he derided children with disabilities as well as people with autism.

This is the man in charge of health and human services for the entire United States.

RFK Jr is a snake oil salesman and a eugenicist. He speaks of disabled people as though they don’t deserve to live, and I truly believe that’s what he thinks of us.

He’s not going to cure autism (it’s not something that needs to be cured). He’s not going to cure the chronic disease epidemic.

He’s going to disappear us. Whether in ‘wellness camps’ or by making it impossible to access the treatments and supports we need to survive.

This article is deeply distressing:

bloomberg.com/news/articles/20

"Over the past two decades, the self-avowed libertarian’s melding of genetic pronouncements with bootstrapping family-values talk has served as the bridge spanning divergent factions of the racialist right, from its IQ-obsessed, DEI-hating Silicon Valley wing to its white nationalist fringes.

Far from rejecting the dynamic of market competition, this new formation deepens it. From the United States and Britain to Hungary and Argentina, so-called populists on the right have not rejected global capitalism as such. Rather, they have rejected the 1990s model of governing global capitalism that revolved around large multilateral trade agreements—opting instead for unilateral action, as in Trump’s use of tariffs as leverage to open markets for U.S. investors and U.S. products and services. In general, the leaders of this right offer few plans to rein in finance, re-industrialize, or restore a Golden Age of job security. On the contrary, their calls to privatize, deregulate, and slash taxes come straight from the playbook shared by the world’s leaders for the past thirty years.

In other words, this new right does not really reject globalism but advances a new strain of it—one that accepts an international division of labor while tightening controls on certain kinds of migration. It assigns intelligence averages to countries in a way that collectivizes and renders innate the concept of “human capital.” It appeals to values and traditions that cannot be captured statistically, shading into a language of national essences and national character. The fix it finds in race, culture, and nation is but the most recent iteration of a pro-market philosophy based not on the idea that we are all the same but that we are in a fundamental, and perhaps permanent way, different."

The MAHA movement claims to want to “make America healthy again”… and RFK Jr says he will end the chronic disease epidemic.

Yet we’ve seen no plans to improve the health or life of the chronically ill, and many plans that will end our lives faster.

Anti vaccine sentiment. Cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Mask bans. Increase in the use of the R slur and various ableist attitudes.

Today Trump announced a tariff on pharmaceuticals, which will devastate the disability community.

We already live below the poverty line, often on a fixed income that barely covers the essentials. We can’t withstand economic uncertainty and supply chain disruptions as well as our non disabled peers.

This is another step in escalating eugenics. The Nazis targeted disabled people too… because they knew no one would stand up for us.

Please fight for us. Wear a mask. Call your elected officials. Reach out a hand in support.

Don’t leave anyone behind.

@animalculum Unfortunately, it fits perfectly into the concept of the techbros with their #TESCREAL ideologies. They dream of #eugenics to ‘improve’ a "surviving human elite" genetically and with #AI or even #AGI. I would like to see ethical debates in science back (they still existed in my childhood).
At the same time we debate about #invasiceSpecies searching their habitats.
@academicchatter

RFK Jr.'s "MAHA" movement doesn't want to eliminate chronic illness. They want to eliminate the chronically ill:

"MAHA does not want to save every life. MAHA wants to end the lives of those who can’t survive a world without vaccines, food safety, and hygiene, because MAHA believes that people exist on a spectrum of “weak” to “strong” and that they are the chosen Übermenschen who will survive without those things. The US now has >600 #measles cases in 22 states, acc/to the #CDC [& who knows if that’s being accurately reported]. That includes 481 cases in #Texas alone. The country has now reported >2X the number of measles cases this year than were reported in all of 2024.

The CDC says there have been 6 measles #outbreaks so far this year.

Most people think that #evolution is about dying, but it's not really the full story. It's also about not being born at all. What if people are actually evolving under the extreme pressure of the modern capitalism? The question remains - is humanity under active eugenics and they are selecting us to be their submissive cattle or are we evolving some immunity to the parasites?

Are the few people who do have children under those terrible conditions the ones who treasure their wholesome relationships over career or those who thrive as the slaves? I don't think it's actually being studied in this context. It feels creepy to even put those questions on the table.

Nevertheless, I think that humanity after the full societal collapse will be different from Homo Sapiens. We have reached the limit of that evolutionary plateau. 300k years was a good run. Good Game people! Cheers!
