Reach newspapers all currently running this story with the headline "Gardeners urged by RSPB to put rice on bird tables as spring arrives" accompanied by a picture of bag of uncooked rice.
Reading on, the advice is actually:
"Household scraps like pastry, cooked rice and breadcrumbs should only be offered in small amounts occasionally. It's crucial to remember that rice must be cooked before offering it to birds, as uncooked rice can lead to digestive problems"

@sarahdalgulls that's... incredibly irresponsible.
@sarahdalgulls This looks like they’re employing AI dross that has just reduced the advice to a ‘handy’ article - but as usual, misleading
@sarahdalgulls
Should be advice to encourage people to have much wilder gardens (if they have space) as a wild garden provides so much more forage for wild birds reducing the need to leave food out for them.
@robtherunt 100%. there is a lot of discussion currently about whether we should be feeding birds at all, but a huge business has grown up around it (in the UK at least) and it provides a massive income stream for several charities. Not only would wilder gardens be better, also reduces the horrible diseases being spread by feeders
@sarahdalgulls
Agree totally!
