I wasn't happy with how the microscope cam didn't have the resolution to catch the light reflecting off these cells, so I switched to the iPhone. But I haven't mastered the after-market phone carriage yet so I haven't stacked the photos.

This is one of the outer bud scales of a dormant almond bud sampled last Nov.

View from the side of a single almond bud scale, detached from the bud. It is 3/4 of scaly brown tissue. It has hirsute edges and the cells in the scaly part are reflecting a lot of light back.
