Start of symposium Integrating fossils and molecules to reconstruct the evolution of life in deep time at , co-organized by members of our @moultdb interdisciplinary project 🤓

First speaker @jopabinia, both a fellow Mastodon user and a fellow mask wearer, with a major question: What are the higher level constraints on phenotypes?

Marc Robinson-Rechavi

@jopabinia great introduction to the symposium combining fossils and genomics. Also mentioning her "greatest hit": everything (decapods mostly) evolves into crabs.

There are of nervous systems (!), but very difficult to interpret without information @jopabinia

There are very beautiful exceptionally well preserved fossils, but "most fossils look like crap" 😅. Can we use the information of these less well preserved fossils with appropriate evolutionary models? @jopabinia

@marcrr thanks, was great to meet you today!
