Okay, #introduction time.
I'm in the middle of a weird disciplinary leap right now but #neuroethology might be the right name. I did my PhD at UT Austin on #EnergyBalance and social context as factors in decisions about whether to signal in singing mice, with a pretty standard #BehavioralEcology perspective; currently, I'm working with #SLEAP and #PoseEstimation on mouse models of neurodivergence in the Grissom lab at UMN, experimenting with #BigData large scale behavioral collection.
I'm perpetually interested in #sex and #gender in the animal kingdom, and currently #sex-differences are part of my work. (This is partly personal—I am #queer and #GNC — and partly just that I'm fascinated by choices and decisions, and how we all cope with trade offs and restraints.)
I've worked on #leptin in the past and would like to revisit that, and I'm looking forward to hanging with my #neuroendocrinology friends at #SICB this winter.
But I'm over here in NIH land because I'm also very interested in #neurodivergence from an animal behavior perspective. As an #ActuallyAutistic scientist I'm often perplexed and infuriated by mouse model work, but I think there is a lot of potential to use mouse models to explore questions that are more immediately relevant to the needs and questions of actual neurodivergent people.
So I'm playing in this space and thinking deeply about #ExecutiveFunction for a bit.
Outside the lab, I'm interested in #disability advocacy and #history, human gender and sexual politics, and finding ways to listen.
I like #dogs and training, and will reliably nerd out about them pretty much anywhere.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but that will do for now.
@eringiglio You're my wife's singing mouse Metafilter person. Hi! I didn't realize you also liked dogs and dog training! Much exclamation and excitement!
@alexhaist yes hi!! I meant to say hi to you when I set the account up last week, she sent me over your way, but then conference prep ate my whole ass brain and then I was on a plane to Sam Diego.
And oh yes I am also very into dogs--there's a dog related fun thing happening I'm very excited about that I'm gonna share when I'm back from Conference, even. :}
