Speaking of I just can't look at a Scrub Jay without seeing a maniraptoran theropod. Strong legs, adaptable generalized body plan, versatile utility beak, and appropriate jaunty attitude and inquisitive nature for negotiating Mesozoic challenges. I think the body proportions and long tail give a real Archaeopteryx/Anchiornis look. Though the rectrices are anchored on to a stubby little pygostyle rather than a long dinosaur tail. Okay, also maybe missing the teeth.

My raptor-ish avatar's coloration is based on the Florida Scrub Jay, since I'm a native Floridian. Never seen the bird in person unfortunately!

@kwsapphire That's synchronicity for you! I have never seen Florida Scrub-Jays either, but here in Oregon the California Scrub-Jays are ubiquitous and make their presence known!
