Which of these phrases is more semantically correct:

"It is a sin to ask and forbidden to know"

or

"It is forbidden to ask and a sin to know"

For bonus points - where the hell did my brain pick that phrase up from?! Fairly sure I read or heard it recently, but jiggered if I can remember where.

To me as well. But one of them is practically possible and the other isn't: you can't forbid people knowing something, only the actions that might get there.
