Bath Nature

Dark-edged Bee-fly (Bombylius major). People have various ways of marking the start of spring, the appearance of these is mine. In

Not really enough to go on but this from this morning could be one.

@lionelb Ooh this is brilliant. The proboscis looks a little too thick to be a bee-fly and there appear to be a long antenna, which bee-flies don't have. I think it's a bee, possible a Hairy-footed Flower Bee (Anthophora plumipes). Here's a photo of one I took the other day

The cherry tree was covered with Hairy-footed Flower bees yesterday. I must pay more attention to how they look in flight.
